  1. Jim Treacher’s review of the movie is much, much funnier than the Babylon Bee.

I am sure the Bee was satirizing somebody, but their review was a big miss. Treacher’s satire, here, is spot on.

      1. OK, OK, please be patient with me.

He was conducting a meta-review of the movie — like a meta-study where a statistician reviews statistical studies in multiple published papers and draws conclusions.

I still think what he wrote was one of the funniest things I read in quite a while.

  2. I hope the hate marketing campaign is another fail. Hate marketing is always a sign that the studio doesn’t think the movie will do well, so they target an audience that will see a movie based off hate marketing rather than entertainment or artistic value.

  3. It’s amazing to watch Disney constantly actively attack their customers for not being good enough for them.

I got the popcorn ready to enjoy BoxOfficeMojo this weekend.

  4. I have watched this slow motion trainwreck happen. It is pathetic how Disney and the movie industry in general is trying to stifle discussion and steer the consumers. Both on media owned news sites like Rotten Tomatoes or IMDB and on sites like Youtube. It’s almost like you’re on a corporate dystopia in progress. It’s almost reaching Chinese government levels of censorship here. I joke but if they can do something like this on such a useless pointless thing like a movie it is quite telling.

Give us back net neutrality and make corporate news independent again. When they own the news and they own the business reporting on the news what are you supposed to call that?

      1. It was about treating internet service as what it should be. Some pipe which transmits information in a neutral fashion without favoring one or the other. Rotten Tomatoes is owned by Comcast which owns NBC.

    1. Holy Roman Empire. Peoples Democratic Republic. Net Neutrality.

As Inigo Montoya opined in the Princess Bride(1987): “You keep using that word. I don’t think it means what you think it means.”

    2. It used to be illegal to own more than one TV station in a given market. The same was true for radio. One entity could only own one of each. If that law were reinstated there could be more real options.

  5. I’m a big MCU fan (except for Spiderman). I’m skipping Capt. Marvel’s opening weekend and will listen to non-leftists who have actually seen the movie before deciding on seeing it myself.

  6. It really doesn’t matter what the reviews say. The Box Office says just shy of a worldwide half billion dollar opening. That’s impressive. For all the negative stuff on YouTube, the movie delivered to original high expectations.

I think Grace Randolph has it right, that the reviews seem to be on the edges while the movie is more in the middle. That phenomenon is part of the third untruth in the Wrecked College Students thread. Alas, a lot of people (Disney, the promoters, and the haters) made money off Captain Marvel, which shows there is not a zero sum field.

  7. I was OK with the movie except for one HUGE politically correct change from the comics and this is a SPOILER. They have a character in the movie played by Annette Bening, who is based on Marvel Comics original Captain Marvel — the Kree Captain Mar-Vell who was a MAN. In the movie that role is cast as a woman… WTF!!!??? There is no explanation for this except political correctness… they couldn’t have their female hero, Carol Danvers, have a male mentor/hero figure.
