Maxine Waters

Impeachment is whatever Congress says it is.

Well, pretty much, yeah. This isn’t right, though:

“Bill Clinton got impeached because he lied,” Waters declared. “Here you have a president who I can tell you and guarantee you is in collusion with the Russians, to undermine our democracy. Here you have a president who has obstructed justice, and here you have a president that lies every day.”

…Unless Trump can be accused of “Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors,” he cannot be impeached.

While Waters claimed Clinton was impeached for “lying,” he was actually impeached for perjury — lying under oath.

Actually, he was impeached for multiple counts of obstruction of justice, including not just perjury, but suborning perjury from others via bribes and physical threats to a woman’s family, for the purpose of preventing someone he’d sexually harassed from getting a fair trial.

    1. This is why people “leave it in god’s hands.” Even people that don’t believe in god.

The only human solution is get them in court and don’t go soft.

But when the liars own the court, violence is the only remedy left. The whole point of the court is to prevent violence.

Lying is violence to the truth. Like any violence it varies in degree.

Imagine the uproar if people called for the impeachment of a democrat before they even took office?

      1. The movie Chinatown is hence an apt analogy.

If finally found an explanation for the line “forget it, Jake, it’s Chinatown.” The Jack Nicholson character is a private eye gathering evidence of spousal cheating, a sordid business, yes, but much less corrupt than the LAPD he once worked for as a law officer.

In the course of practicing his trade, he gets “mixed up” in a matter much more serious and much larger than his women clients seeking evidence to get divorces from cheating husbands in the pre no-fault divorce days. He stumbles across the machinations and corruption associated with Los Angeles acquiring its modern water supply, and he goes through much of the movie with his face bandaged on account of having his nose slashed by parties unknown trying to “teach him a lesson.”

At the end of the movie, where even the style of violence of a private detective using his wits and his fists and his gun to defend himself does not result in a satisfying let alone a just resolution, his former LAPD partner tells him, “Forget it Jake, its Chinatown.” The backstory is when Jake the Jack Nicholson character worked with his friend an partner on the force in Chinatown, the “fix was in”, leading Jake to spend his time on the LAPD doing “as little as possible” and eventually leaving to become a private detective.

The line meant that whereas the LA Water Project was much bigger than Chinatown, a small ethnic neighborhood within LA, the matter that Jake got himself involve in was just like Chinatown inasmuch as “the fix is in.”

My line “It’s Liberal Equivalence” meant that people of the place on the political spectrum occupied by Ms. Waters will come up with the most stretched-beyond-recognition comparisons to advance their cause, and it is not worth the bother arguing with them in response because they cannot help themselves advance the most silly of arguments.

          1. Yes, SCTV’s Polynesian Town is an even stronger analogy to Maxine Waters, Member of Congress because the SCTV version is seriously silly.

      2. Some us us were saying that Hilary should be impeached before she took the Oval Office should she take the election, for what she did as Secretary of State.

  1. Maxine Waters, the kleptocrat crazy old woman screaming at clouds, occasionally screams the truth. High Crimes and Misdemeanors are whatever the Congress decides it is.

And then 2/3 of the Senate has to agree. Good luck with that.

Yes I agree “impeachment” has always been a political act masquerading as a legal action. Waters knows (or believes) that impeaching Trump might play well to her base in her district that’s all she really cares about anyway. Takes the pressure off her to actually deliver anything tangible; and as you say impeaching the prez is a far cry from removing him from office. After all the Republicans controlled both houses of Congress and couldn’t remove Clinton from office, the dems currently control neither.

    1. My take is that a good portion of wars are started by parties that lose them. They usually don’t expect to lose.

And I don’t think it’s a good idea to take war for granted.
