  1. The one I consider most horrible isn’t even there. People are giving more information to Silicon Valley companies than they would ever want to give the government or businesses. That information is then sold to the government and businesses as a primary source of revenue.

Silicon Valley companies are businesses. Frankly, any users too stupid to figure that out may be getting what they deserve.

      1. The problem is choice, there aren’t choices. Giving up on social media, free apps, having a smart phone, ect still will not remove you from the grips of data analytics or the control technocrats exert over society. Not even a hermit living off grid in the woods is immune.

  2. I agree with all of the points on the list, but I too feel it left of the biggies, such as massive invasion of privacy, theft of data, etc etc. Many people are not aware (they should be, but aren’t) how invasive social media companies, google, etc are. Sure, they might figure out that what the post on Facebook isn’t private, but do they know that facebook follows them around the web spying on them, even when not logged in?

The privacy and data theft issues are why I won’t have social media accounts of any sort.

  3. Is “Furry” culture maliciously deviant? I’ve always thought it was weird, but if it’s consenting adults – you do you. But the author’s paragraphs mentions them in same the same sentence as pedophiles.

    1. That point of his was stupid. Sure, furries are weird and of course pedos are horrific but there are countless other interests that people can interact about and that isn’t a bad thing, its a good thing.

The siloing was also off point. People very rarely have just one interest and will seek out other means of exploring them. It isn’t a given that if people have fewer choices that they will choose the things the author thinks is important. There are way to many subjects for any single person to be informed and interested in all of them and once again, this is a good thing.

The focus on furries and pedos is just argument in extremism. It is the same argument being made in the battle over the freedom to speak but maybe in both cases, instead of just the 1a, the real target isn’t what is being brought up as an example of bad things.
