  1. As I understand it, there were two main groups of early feminists–those who liked the power dynamic but wanted it flipped, and those that actually wanted something more like equality. Both would be horrified; the second by what they achieved, the first because they didn’t act faster before the rubes caught on.

  2. Imagine a man Stone cold sober (yes under some sort of psychiatric care) calmly sending his wife out on some sort of an errand .Afterwards turning and systematically murdering his 3 children. imagine him admitting that in court and claiming temporary insanity or some such. Likely a total lack of sympathy from a jury that’s say 9 men and 3 women what do you think the odds are of that ending up with a hung jury?

    1. I was watching a youtube video (probably from TikTok). Moms were cooking with their children. They’d crack one egg in a bowl, kid would look on and smile, then they’d crack the next egg on their child’s forehead. The kids would be stunned for a few seconds, look at their mom in apparent shock, and break out crying. The moms would laugh hysterically. This was a compilation of several (more than three) mom and child sets.

Horrible. If you wanted to make a case that women are immature and narcissistic and should never be allowed rights or responsibilities of any sort, this would be pretty good evidence in favor.

      1. A man recently ended up killing his infant child because he thought it would be funny to see what would happen if he pointed a leaf blower at his baby, all ‘for the lulz’ and I believe even for the social media clicks.

Narcissistic, immature behavior is not gender-specific.

        1. There’s a difference between doing something stupid that winds up tragic and deliberately killing a child. The former is like idiots who stick the vacuum hose in their cat’s face. The latter… I was the unwanted child of immature parents and suffered a series of painful accidents at their hands. I still have a limp courtesy of Dad and third-degree burn scars courtesy of Mom. They’re dead now, so I’m probably safe.

          1. I’m so sorry to hear that, William. I can’t even begin to imagine that and I hope that you found a way to break that cycle in a healthy way and somehow have begun to heal emotionally.

          2. Well, I guess I was a piss-poor parent, but better than mine. On the other hand, of my four grandparents, 3 were alcoholics, including two who died from it. I knew that generation as a child and they were horrific. I learned to avoid people with glossy eyes.

          3. Yes this is sad. Saying I’m sorry you went through that doesn’t cut it. You survived. That matters.

    2. Imagine a man on subway geting into a car with crazy person who was only practicing his 1st amendment rights. That man then approaches the crazy person and systematically choke and kills the crazy person. Then guess what was found innocent and goes on to state he would do it again . Then was given a cushy 6 figure job that he was didn’t have the merit for.
So maybe not so hard to imagine your scenario Tim.
Or should we go thru other cases of people killing people due to irrationally fearing for their lives that got off scot free.

      1. But let’s not mention the crazy person’s long-standing record or the accounts of the eye witnesses….can’t let pesky things like evidence and facts ruining a good ‘whataboutism’ can we?

      2. Surely for a counter-argument to the point of a woman strangling three innocent children and getting off you could come up with a better rebuttal pint than the Penny case. A case involving a man acting crazy on a subway car frightening everybody around him etc provoking someone to chokehim to death and being found not guilty by self-defense. I mean I’m sure there are counter arguments to my point but there’s got to be better ones than that. I don’t know what kind of engineer you are but for my own safety I hope I never have to fly in drive walk across or in any way handle anything you had anything to do with designing building doing maintenance on or anything else.

        1. Forget it wodun.

There are some on the Internete who compare socks and volcanos, all the time.

        2. A lot of what was on the radio in the 30s, 40’s and 50’s was pretty cheesy. I used to have vinyl records of those old shows to prove it. I suppose you can stream it now, if you know where to look.

  3. On the other hand, I was reading a post years ago about a man whose wife/girlfriend was on some anti-psychotic medication. For some reason, they had to change medicine (I don’t remember–maybe it wasn’t working as well, maybe it was no longer covered by insurance). They monitored his wife pretty closely for a fairly long period of time (weeks? maybe months) to make sure that the new medication was effective. It seemed to be–the wife was apparently functioning normally. Then the man found out that the wife was plotting a mass murder of social undesirables, fortunately before anything was carried out. They switched medication, and she apparently was back to normal.

Anyway, medicines apparently do help in some circumstances. It’s disturbing that they can make that much difference–I like to imagine that rationality/empathy are more fundamental.

    1. My cousin’s wife k!lled herself within days of her doctor changing her medication. He and their son are still struggling emotionally many years later. I can only imagine what it is like for folks in these situations

  4. My question is dragging as back to which Dark Ages. There were Dark Ages and then there were Dark Ages.

The Medieval Dark ages were dark, yes, but not a complete collapse of social and political systems as people had known them. It was mainly the result of the collapse of Roman hegomony in Europe, and yes, collapse of social systems underpinning Rome played a big part. The Late Bronze Age Collapse was beyond dark, involving the simultaneous collapse of multiple cultures in the Near East–Achaean Greece, the Hittites, Egypt and others, and for reasons that are offered but not very well understood to this day.

The Late Bronze Age Collapse is comparable to what people think would happen if the world experienced an all-out nuclear exchange, which some of us thought could be a consequence of Hillary Clinton being elected president and used the Launch Codes to fulfil a revenge fantasy on all of the men in here life whom she perceived to have done her wrong.

The social consequences to the Lindsay Clancy matter don’t rise to that level of risk. Or at least not yet.

  5. The argument is the were no Medieval Dark Ages, that Later Antiquity was doing okay until the catastrophic war between the Eastern Roman Empire and Persia. That, combined with the spread of Monophysite Christianity opened to the door to you-know-who.

As for the Late Bronze Age collapse, Egypt didn’t go down. Civilization survived most places, just not in Greece. It’s a dark age there because literacy ended when the Mycenean palaces fell, and it was a while before some Euboean genius looked at the Phoenician receipts, and said, “Y’know…”
