  1. All your base are belong to us! (Zero Wing video game)

All our base are belong to . . . you! (Russian inversion)

You may not be interested in whom your base belong, but to whom your base belong is interested in you! (Trotsky)

All your base us belong to! (Yoda)

That depends on how is the meaning of the word “base”, based. (President Clinton)

You can still have your base, but the State will not fund it by deduction from your pay. (Governor Walker)

If Congress will not or cannot resolve the question of base posession, I will feel compelled to issue an Executive Order. (President Obama)

  2. “But Yoda speaks English.”

Nonsense. Yoda, like most other characters in the Star Wars films, spoke Basic. We just got an English translation because we don’t speak Basic.

  3. “I will my own counsel on them, who trained become, keep. (German)”

Great example. Perfectly natural in German (or Dutch), but a total trainwreck in English.

      1. Yeah, I had read it, it’s hilarious. I feel his pain, but actually German is quite regular. An American former colleague once said to me about Dutch, which is similar to German, but easier: to the degree English is logical, it’s like Dutch.
