A Sincere Apology

If Lott had acted like this guy, it would probably be clear sailing for him by now. But he didn't, because he was too dumb and arrogant.

It was a good apology, but it's worth bearing in mind that there was a possibility of criminal prosecution under Canada's hate-speech laws. The article doesn't say whether he's managed to head that off.

No way. The Chief's apology was bullshit, and everyone knew it. After being confronted with his initial comments, he pointedly repeated them and expanded upon them, reiterating his belief that Hitler did the world a favor by "frying" all those Jews. These crocodile tears are transparently designed to save his job -- no one believes he means it.

Come to think of it, he is acting like Lott.

No, whether the chief was sincere or not, he at least sounded (or read as) sincere. And he actually resigned (though as Kevin points out, it may have been to avoid the worse fate of a jail term and/or fine). If Lott had been able to pull that off, early, he might have survived.

Two good things about this happening.

ONE: Thank God this happened in Canada we don't need another race / religion related issue here right now.

TWO: We still don't have Hate Speech Laws. We can say whatever we want, no matter how moronic or wrongheaded. We can still be just as ignorant as we want and not worry about prosecution. It may cost us the Leadership of the Senate, but we can still be verbally ignorant.

Just what did Mr. Abrehew, think would be Hitler's
policy after he did away with the Jews; (hint; he was a real fan of the Westerns by May; according
to Toland)

Maybe Lott thinks he can brazen it out, like Clinton did so many times. Hint: It helps to be a babe magnet and *completely* devoid of principles.

>> It helps to be a babe magnet and *completely* devoid of principles.

Acting as a babe magnet IS a principle.

Clinton has/had principles. However, his principles were not ones that his opponents or supporters liked.

Bill Clinton's only operating principle was "what's in it for me"? Lott's showing some signs of the same guiding light...
