Overblown

Look, I'm glad the POW was rescued, but am I the only one that thought this was vastly overblown as "big news" and "good news," worth waking up reporters at 3 AM to announce? I was expecting Saddam's surrender, or the fall of Basra, or even the release of all the POWs.

The fact that they only got the one back makes me feel all the worse for those still in captivity. And that includes the Iraqis that Saddam continues to hold hostage as a nation.

[Update a few minutes later]

It was Jessica Lynch. That is great, particularly since her status was unknown, but it's still sad that she's the only one.

I felt much the same way, but I've also been reluctant to express any negative opinions. It *is* a very good thing, but I'll be that much gladder when we get them all.

I think they made a big deal out of it because it's mostly unarguably a good thing, as opposed to some of the "bickering" that's been going on lately.

I was also concerned that some of the sources of information that gave her location were leaked to/by the press... although it's hard to say how much of that is accurate or was already known by the Iraqis. Why make the Iraqi intelligence job that much easier?

I'm glad she was recovered. CNN reports that Special Forces retrieved her--and possibly up to 11 bodies--from some Iraqi hospital.

I have this nasty feeling she's the only one of that group to be alive still; what with the original pictures of the dead, plus the news reports the other day about finding four bodies in American military uniform in shallow graves. I think if we ever find out what happened, we'll find that nearly all of those poor kids were executed after being badly treated.

Given how the Iraqis treat their prisoners, I think some nasty inferences can be drawn about why she's the only one to be returned. I hope I'm wrong!

IN any event, we'll add this to the price the regime will pay.

She was from Palestine, W. VA. That coincidence may have spared her.

Nope, ur not alone. In fact the whole childishness lack of perspective for what's important just irritates the hell out of me. Gotta admit tho, I was preparing to bewail the fact that wimin are now so subject to being POWs with all that may entail for "Jessica" and others. In fact, I was bewailing her seemingly sissy behavior. That is until I learned she emptied her magazine on those bastards and they broke three major bones of her. Outstanding work Pvt Lynch!
