Short SCO's Stock

Here's a possible reason why...

Looks to me like they don't have a case.

Looks pretty damning to me. The one problem I see with all of this is, if it goes to trial, finding a "jury of their peers" that will be able to understand the seeming minutiae of the relevant code and get that SCO is completely full of it. We've seen repeatedly that technical discussions can completely obliterate the frontal lobe of a collective jury!

My 2 cents. Hope SCO just gives up the ghost and this all goes away.

Of course they don't have a case. But that doesn't guarantee they won't win. :-(

Until they are ground into the ground by the collective weight of the IBM legal dept. and the rest of the open source community (RedHat and others, in addition to well funded user companies), I've just been recommending FreeBSD to scared clients.

It supports nearly as much different hardware as linux, and runs almost all of the same open source software (linux is needed only for closed source binaries...but FreeBSD has increasingly better binary emulation, too). The BSD derived free unixes all went through a similar legal case, as described by Parens, which I won't be surprised to see cited in this one, as some of the same source code is involved.

I REALLY wish I had money to short SCO right now.

I gleefully await the insider trading charges against SCO exec's who've sold (non-trivial amounts of!) stock since the filing of the IBM case, after they lose it :-)
