Thomas James has a good rundown on the composition of the Aldridge Commission to flesh out the president's new space policy.

I'm again underwhelmed, but not disappointed, because I didn't really have high expectations. The only name that I see here as perhaps representing the potential for new thinking is Bob Walker (and Paul Spudis), but since I've never heard of many of them, it's probably best to reserve judgement for now.

Carly Firorina of HP is probably good news. HP is sponsoring TransOrbital.
Alridge's heavy aerospace heavyweights background cant be good. All in all, looks like too many mentions of words "lockheed","mars" and "missile" in all those credentials.

I'd say Fiorina's bad news. People at HP are distinctly unhappy with her. Her Compaq merger (and it is "her" merger) will most like turn out to be a bad idea.

One of the bigger problems with today's aerospace industry is the overconcentration into a few giant, heavily bureaucratic firms. Fiorina will hardly be a critic of this trend.

Aerospace needs fewer arrogant bullies and more good listeners.

Got to agree with Chuck though Carly Fiorina can be competent (eg, walking away from a merger with Price Waterhouse, merger with Compaq could be worse, simplifying HP sales and marketing).

Fiorina will doom the first landing because the navigation computer will use RPN notation. But the one that really worries me is Michael Jackson. Do we really need him on the new moonwalk commission? But I'm glad to see Neil DeGrasse Tyson on the committe. He's also a wrestler and can hopefully beat some sense into their heads.
