Extropian On The Lam

I used to be fairly close to Keith Henson (who is, among other things, co-founder of the L-5 Society), back in the late seventies and early eighties, but I haven't heard from him since he took refuge in Canada, a few years ago, from an adverse court judgement in his little war with the Scientologists. So I found this interview with him [via Clark Lindsey] quite interesting. You may as well.

I find it interesting that in the interview that focuses on "memes" and their undue influence on the world includes a whopper regarding the USA reinstating a draft.

There is definitely a scare-tactic in place by the left, which largely failed, claiming a draft would be needed to satisfy the war-on-terror strain on our military. Soldiers are rapidly being rotated out of Iraq right now and many nations are being rotated in (Japan has its first combat-zone deployment since WWII in Iraq).

I guess some people only see what they want to see.

Well, Keith is as far from the "left" as it's possible to get, being a hard-core libertarian, reared on Bob Heinlein.

I'm willing to cut him some slack, given that he's been living with the Canucks, and suffering under probable exposure to their peculiarly biased news.

Hi Rand. Thanks for pointing people to the RU Sirius interview. It has been a while since we last were together. If you get up this way send me a note.

Re reinstating the draft, that was in news up from the states as planed for the second term of GWB.

Who knows? It has been somewhat of a revelation that the invasion of Iraq was on the front burner *before* 9/11.

Watch for a new article of mine coming out on the evolutionary psychology origin of wars.
