Liquid Cooling Garments

...for the masses. Astronauts have always had coolant loops in their clothes when performing extravehicular activity, to carry away the heat in the only way possible, but now it's becoming an off-the-shelf item, thanks to Israeli ingenuity. Expect to see the space startups employ it.

another great invention for bikers
Excerpt: An Israeli inventer has come up with an air conditioner or sorts for motorcycles. It's basically a knockoff of the thermal underwear that astronauts wear under their spacesuits, circulating cool air or warm air around the body as needed. The air con...

"The company has high hopes of reaching a cooperation agreement with a major motorcycle manufacturer, who would assist in mass production and marketing of the product."

Based on the picture, Israel's location on the map, and their general penchant for this kind of thing, I would expect that they've approached BMW already, and that's who would be most likely to introduce this product line.

I also expect that to increase the price of the garments a couple-fold, but that's the price of owning a BMW motorcycle, I guess...

I have a liquid cooling garment (of sorts) sitting right next to my desk- a Donjoy Iceman (tm) cold therapy system. When I woke up from my knee surgery last month, it was fastened to me, it followed me home, I'm keeping it :)

Seriously, though, it is a small cooler (6-pack size) with a circulation pump and a flexible plastic pad which can be draped to fit a knee, shulder, back, etc- and it made a pretty good cap when the office AC couldn't keep up with the 110 F heat a couple weeks ago. You fill it with ice, add water to the line, plug in the wall wart low voltage supply, and it runs icewater through the pad- even has a bypass temperature adjustment feature to back off the cooling power as needed.

One of these would be wonderful for anyone working in a high temperature environment.

It's an air cooled garment, not liquid:

An air tube from the air conditioner conducts the cold air directly into the thermal shirt through a pipe under the bottom of the shirt.

If they're reasonably effective, they'll become EMT equipment in heat-stroke country.

Then they'll be rented to folks who go to Disney World in August.

Actually, some of the attempts for liquid cool suits/vests/caps were marketed for people who have to deal with very high heat stress - like those poor souls walking around in Disney character suits during summer.

Hell, if they can make them reasonably portable, I'll get one for when I have to go to Japan in the summer. 88+ degrees and 100% humidity. I damn near passed out on the subway last time I was there.
