Time Waster

Someone has developed the world's most difficult (but simple) sliding-block puzzle.

You can play it here.

You can play it here.

Maybe you can....

I said you could play it. I didn't say you could win.

What the heck? There are only two starting moves that I can see, and both of them lead to stalemates where you can only move backwards. Anyone move A more than once?

Posted by Just John at December 8, 2004 10:07 AM

I managed two moves (so far), but I suspect I'm a long way from winning.

Posted by Rand Simberg at December 8, 2004 10:23 AM

I can get it to the lower right, but that's it. I think it's one of those puzzles that your brain needs to work on in spare cycles - come back to it later, and you'll be surprised what you'll "see" when you start to do it.

Posted by Matt Picioccio at December 8, 2004 11:04 AM

Yes, I've now gotten it to the lower right as well. I wonder if that's on the path to the upper right?

Posted by Rand Simberg at December 8, 2004 11:26 AM

I suspect the next step is to put it in the lower left, then diagonally to the upper right, but I do have to pretend to get some work done today.

Posted by Raoul Ortega at December 8, 2004 01:56 PM

Well, it CAN be done - only took me 317 moves :)

And believe me, it is a way better use of my time than studying for an Income Tax exam...

Posted by Steve Russell at December 8, 2004 03:29 PM

I moved it down to the bottom-right... and then up to the upper-left! Yay!

...Wait a minute. :(
