End Of Newspapers?

I actually think that newspapers are more likely to be done in by things like Craig's List (when they start losing their classified ad revenue) than bloggers, Sam. I'd like to know more about that poll.

Young people may be reading blogs, but it's not obvious from it that that's where they're getting their news. There are a lot of blogs that talk about a lot of subjects, but that's more of a social activity, I suspect, than information gathering.

It does seem rather unlikely that I would get my news from blogs. But I think I do get > 50% of my news that way.

It is not that the bloggers actually /interview the talking heads/photo the scene/write the story/. [ Although, they DO do these things on occasion -- see Nasawatch.com, etc. ] they instead serve as the editors and the op-ed page to the news. And that's all that TV or most Newspapers do anyway. Bloggers do it differently, and better in my opinion.

Oh, and yes, Craigslist/ebay beats the pants off the newspaper classifieds.

One of my good friends in New York used craigslist to find his current roommates. Later, he actually met Craig in a strange twist of fate.

But I agree that that the death knell will be a combination of shoddy writing and displacement of classifieds. This will continue the downward spiral of declining circulation which will lead to even more desperate tactics.

I am currently getting the WSJ which I had not requested. But because I had been a previous subscriber, they wanted to give me the "chance" to renew. I like the articles in WSJ, but it is a hassle to deal with all of this paper. Of course, they will take full credit in their circulation numbers for my "subscription".

Plus, think of all the poor kids that have to wake up so early to deliver those papers! It is adversely affecting their studies.

The only drawback is that this will be one more thing that I have to describe to my kids when I tell them how good they have got it. This list will include vinyl records, cassette tapes, and hopefully a brief discussion about a long gone purple dinosaur.

Don't forget about the coupons also.
