The Salvation Of France

New French PM de Villepin says that France can be restored through "Gallic genius.

Hate to break it to you, Dominique, but "Gallic genius" is exactly what got you into the mess you're in in the first place...

Gosh, what Gaul!

The only "Gallic genius" examples I can think of off the top of my head are Louis Pasteur (sadly no longer with us), Jacques Cousteau (sadly no longer with us) and the Concorde (sadly no longer with us) LOL- and by Concorde, I mean the technical side, not the economic side.

The concept isn't entirely laughable, just outdated. Get a couple of generations decimated in disastrous wars, then get all arrogant and exclusive instead of learning lessons, and you get behind the "genius" curve fast.

A something of an expert on small arms of the 20th century, French small arms were and are largely garbage. The FA-MAS is ok and need I remind people of the Chauchat? (pronounced show-show)

Ever wonder why the Izzys moped the floor with the Arabs in 47? The Arabs were using frenchy small arms largely. The Izzys were using 'rehabilitated' Nazi small arms and British small arms.

Well, that was a factor IMO.

I can't speak for other fields, but there are many top notch French mathematics and physicists. Maybe "Gallic genius" isn't present/wasted on the political front?

They made some superb fighters and tanks during WWI.
