More Bias At Google?

They seem to be quite selective about what they find "offensive":

...while ads for the anti-Clinton book -- which featured images of the book's cover and pictures of the former first couple -- were deemed offensive, the company continues to run ads for overtly liberal advertisers with headlines such as "Hate Bush? So Do We," and "George W. Bush f@rt doll."

I'm sure it has nothing to do with this, though:

...98 percent of all political donations by Google employees went to support Democrats.

CEO Eric Schmidt gave the maximum legal limit of donations to Democratic presidential nominee Sen. John Kerry and to primary candidate Howard Dean.

Schmidt also contributed the maximum amount to Sen. Clinton, whose role in helping her husband intimidate his female accusers is addressed in the new book.

I think I may switch to Teoma.

Just like you, Google can be as selective as it wants. Publishers have that right and have been exercising it for decades. There's no reason to accept an ad if you believe it will drive away readers.

Who said they couldn't? I'm still entitled to criticize them for their selections. And I can be as selective as I want about which search engines I use.

Publishers have that right and have been exercising it for decades. There's no reason to accept an ad if you believe it will drive away readers.

Do you really believe that's why they do it? Really?

"Google can be as selective as it wants."

Google lies when it is called on this. They feign being impartial.

Rand admits he is not impartial and does not ever pretend otherwise.

The problem is they hypocracy Google engages in.

Well said! A plus for you!

Search engines are on-line libraries. If I ask for Blackstone, I expect Blackstone not Marx. It's obvious Google is attempting to shape the political landscape of its users. I find this reprehensible. This type of activity is more Orwellian than anything in the Patriot Act.

I mostly use AltaVista. I'll give Teoma a try.

The problem with Google -- and it's become a problem with AltaVista -- is, they produce too many hits
with too little relevance. I have to use advanced search to narrow the hits down to where they're useful.

I have to deal with their biases firsthand, I run Google adwords on my website and a couple of p ages are force-fed peace ads because the page mentions weapons and war too often, so I get stupid ads that have no relevance on that page. I considered taking the ads off the page, but decided to leave it on there just so people can see their biases.

Here's the page:

I wish google would simply give you keyword control over the ads that display.

I'm shocked by Google's actions.

I hereby exercise my only true superpower.

That was the sound of Google being removed from my Favorites list.
