SoCal Shaker

I was on the phone with someone in South Pasadena (CA), and he just reported an earthquake to me in real time out there.

[Quick check at USGS]

Yup, a 5.3 north of Yucaipa. They should have felt that all the way from San Diego to the high desert. I didn't feel a thing here in Florida, though.

Yep, the shaking was moderate here in Pasadena. Lasted for about 5 seconds.

I should add that one of my good friends is out in Aceh investigating the next section of the fault that could go out there. He's been in several of earthquakes this size in the few weeks he's been there.

And more shaking tonight in San Francisco (about 5 seconds as well) from the 6.9 up off Eureka tonight.
Thats the 2nd one in 2 days up there of similar size, although this one was deeper than the other one, and seems to have been better felt in the Bay Area (almost 400 miles from the epicenter).

Wow, despite being in Pasadena, I managed to be completely oblivious to the earthquake while sitting at my desk. I didn't realize there was a quake until I read about it an hour later.

" I didn't feel a thing here in Florida, though."

That's ok. They didn't feel the winds from the hurricanes that came through here last year...

Everyone has something....
I'd just moved from San Diego to near Boston when the Northridge quake happened.

One of the co-workers came to me and said how could you live someplace with earth quakes...

I pointed out that more people froze to death in New-england than had died in the earth quake....

Yes. Living on planets is dangerous. All these unpredictable energy releases. I think I'll go live in these voids between superclusters of galaxies. There the only real concern is freezing to death in a few quadrillion years or so.
