A Quarter Of A Century

...since Ronald Reagan was shot by John Hinckley. I was doing some research in the corporate library at the Aerospace Corporation, when the librarian (who I knew) came over and told me.

OMG, are you ever CONNECTED! The CORPORATE LIBRARY of the AEROSPACE CORPORATION! Wow!

Posted by at March 30, 2006 07:01 AM

Do you have anything intelligent to say, anonymous idiot?

Posted by Rand Simberg at March 30, 2006 07:03 AM

I'm afraid you totally misunderstood me. I wasn't being sarcastic; I am genuinely impressed that you have access to the Aerospace Corporation's library. I had an ex-boss who was given a tour of their campus in California, and he brought back amazing stories.

I'm sorry, but it came across as sarcastic (all caps and exclamation marks don't help--they're generally a sign of netkooks, or someone being sarcastic...).

All Aerospace employees have access to the library. I was working there at the time.

That's OK. Yes, I understand what made you think that way in the first place.

Wow, you should mention something about Aerospace in a bio on your page; I only know you from your Fox commentaries and your Usenet postings.

Getting back on the topic, I was on campus having lunch outside the theater-arts building when another student came outside and called to some of his buddies something like, "Reagan was hit too!"

I seem to recall he wasn't exactly all torn up about this. Before there was BDS, there was RDS.

For my part, I was working as a military technical instructor, when my supervisor walked up to tell me that Reagan was going to be okay. This sounded a bit strange, since I had no idea why the president should not be okay.

As it happens, I was at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley yesterday. My stepsons sat down and watched the segment on the shooting. Even though the date was mentioned, it did not occur to any of us that the next day was the 25th anniversary. They mentioned it on the news this morning.

By the way, the Library has a new exhibit - new since I was last there five years ago, at least. No, I am not refering to Mr. Reagan himself, but to Air Force One! 27000 is sitting there as a walk-through, in a newly constructed wing. Getting it in there must have been half the fun! It is apparently on a very long-term borrow from the Air Force Museum.
