The Turn Of The Tide

Everyone seems to think that the big story of the day is the number of the beast, but I think that it's much more important to remember what happened sixty two years ago. The Donovan does, in pictures. Black Five does as well, with a link roundup.

Maybe the number of the beast is more in line today than we think. As a country we are seperated by the current war, mostly by the military being demonized daily.

We should remember and thank our heroes daily as we excercise our rights to live as we do. For having the right to agree to disagree on these issues. Just remembering them on the D-Day Anniversary removes us to much from how much we owe them.

My thanks to anyone who fought and died on that day, or a thousand other days. My thanks to anyone who ever served to protect my right to post here, worship as I wish and to vote as I see fit. Thanks to my father and my grandfather both of whom did their time to protect my rights, before I was old enough to understand just what that meant. Thanks to my old shipmates. Thanks to my sons, one of whom still serves, now that I am too old to serve.

Fascinating.

Robert A Heinlein's Number of the Beast was based on one of those properties. I read it long ago and only remember it being sub-par.

Having just endured a lengthy back and forth elsewhere with a Saganite about the question of whether or not creation requires a creator,I'm going to have to pass on Mr. Keith's request to find the other intergers with similar properties, let alone prove them. I have a headache.

I spent a year in 'Nam...ducking. The hard part was returning home. While I'm pleased we can have the debate, I'm sorrowed by it having devolved into the shameful circus it has become, with those in our service once again facing unrewarded sacrifice.

For those in the D-Day landing craft looking out at what the Nazi's had in store for them, there should have been no doubt about the support back home, despite any political differences and the suspicions and intrigues which arise from them.

It should be no different now.
