"...threatening to shutter beaches, parks and possibly c@sinos in the coming days."

This would be a good opportunity to take a look at all the things the state has stuck its fingers into and ask, "Why is the state government doing this?"

Of course, that will never happen.

Rand obviously forgets 1996.

The GOP shut down the feds

I'll bet Rand remembers that it was really Bill Clinton that shut the government down. Congress gave him a perfectly good budget. It was his fault he would not sign it.

Well, if Rand remembers that, then he's in a minority. Clinton effectively blamed the Congress for the shutdown, which was very nonpopular.

Clinton effectively blamed the Congress for the shutdown, which was very nonpopular.

That doesn't mean that it was true. It just means that Clinton was an effective politician (not to mention well-established liar).

In any event, I wasn't unhappy about that shutdown. I wished that it would have gone on longer.

The real irony of this situation is the attitude of the governor. The beaches and c@sinos are open, because they are run by local governments or by private companies, so come to NJ for the 4th!!

What he espoused on Fox this morning, by using 200 strung together politician's weasel words, was that the way to balance the budget was to increase spending to cover what the state "needs", and increase the taxes to cover it.

Isn't that the same type thinking that's getting most of the states and the federal government in trouble NOW?

I don't live in NJ, but many folks from NJ are here in the southern climes, many for the tax relief. Oddly, once here for a while, they run for office and then begin to raise our taxes!!

Clinton said lots of things that weren't true. The Ms. Lwenski remark was one of the least of them. But he did try harder than a Centepede at a hotfoot contest to find that middle class tax cut he promised.........
