I thought that was EXACTLY the system in force since that apple thing?
For people who believe in heaven and hell and their associated bosses that's how it works. Very few people completely turn their back on good in one step.
They start small, lying, petty pilfering from the office or family, by the end they are pleading not guilty to major crimes, or they're strapped down, needle in the arm, HOPING they were right about that no real GOD thing.
