A Great Economist Has Passed

I'm hearing that Milton Friedman died last night. RIP and condolences to Rose.

More thoughts later.

[5 PM Update]

Glenn has some relevant links

As many have noted, he wasn't just an economist, but (like Hayek) a tireless fighter for human liberty.

[Update at 7:30 PM EST]

Here's another link roundup. Here's one from Brian Doherty:

Undoubtedly the most successful and influential proponent of libertarian thought in the 20th century, Milton Friedman, died last night at age 94. His successes as both a technical economist and libertarian polemicist are enormous. We can thank him, in large part, for happy events from the elimination of the draft to the conquest of inflation. Just a quick note now–his impact was staggering, and there could never be enough words said in praise of him.

And as is pointed out, the collectivist ghouls at Democratic Underground are partying.

[Late update]

For the uninitiated, here's a list of Milton Friedman books.

Sullivan quotes Friedman concerning the "War on Drugs":

"Every friend of freedom, and I know you are one, must be as revolted as I am by the prospect of turning the United States into an armed camp, by the vision of jails filled with casual drug users and of an army of enforcers empowered to invade the liberty of citizens on slight evidence"

What a bunch of vile, hate flled subhumans. There are a couple there with some class but the rest are nothing but eventual fodder for the infernal regions.

Perhaps they can ask for a reservation in the soon to be Castro or Che wings.

Spent about 2 minutes at Dem Underground and feel like I need a hot shower.
As usual, it can't be enough for the left to just *disagree*. They can't seem to stop themselves from making it personal and vile.

As much as it makes me want to strangle them, it also gives me peace to know that if this keeps up, their true colors will eventually be revealed enough to ensure the Democrats aren't trusted with power for very long. Keep it up, knuckleheads.

"Underground", indeed...

whoops

The upside is that DU is about as representative of most Democrats as FR is of most Republicans.

That is, not very, thankfully.
