Clintonian

Apparently it was a "someone else's culpa." I always love that passive voice. It takes me back to the nineties.

I thought the phrase originally came to prominence through Reagan's Iran-Contra apology.

Could be (though I doubt it was the first usage). But the Clintons had many opportunities to elevate it to a high art.

Posted by Rand Simberg at March 14, 2007 06:27 AM

Clinton would acknowledge mistakes were made,
Unless Bush who has elevated Denial to an art form.

"Apparently it was a "someone else's culpa.""

Has it ever been otherwise with these people?

"But the Clintons had many opportunities to elevate it to a high art."

Every other press release out of the GOP Bolshevik Congress had been an accusation of sado-pederasty or deicide, so you're basically correct--Clinton was confronted with everything from complete Republican fabrications to genuine mistakes on his part, and had to develop proportionate responses for every point along the spectrum.

But the story is exactly the opposite with the Bush regime, accustomed to choreographed applause from hand-picked ideological claques and made-to-order legislation from a loyal monkey parliament. They approach leadership with a deep personal conviction in their own moral infallibility, and trying to croak out the feeble semblance of an apology is genuinely challenging for them.

Of course the pillars of heaven would fall if the Divine Leader himself were ever forced to apologize for anything, but on occasion one of the angels has to take one for the team and make an awkward mockery of contrition.

You thinking that a mistake has been made is not actually the same as a mistake having been made, thus "denial" is in the eye of the beholder.

Posted by Michael Herdegen at March 14, 2007 08:51 AM

People used to blame Nixon for inventing non-denial denials, but that statement is no longer operative.

Until recently, Bush and his appointees had a single response to all questions: SHUT UP. Now AG Torquemada has to unhinge his anaconda jaw and hiss out an acknowledgement of facts already established. Their eeeeeevill is losing some of its comic book luster and becoming banal, Hungarian mafia vileness.

Posted by Brian Swiderski at March 14, 2007 10:19 AM

...banal, Hungarian mafia vileness.

Ah...projection. A typical leftist trait.

Posted by Rand Simberg at March 14, 2007 10:21 AM

"Ah...projection."

Ah...obsolete Freudian gibberish. Hop in the horseless carriage, steam a few furlongs to the nearest scribery, and ask the bibliocary where to find the phrenology section.

"A typical leftist trait."

And I thought hard vacuum was expensive. You should farm out your writing skills to the satellite testing industry.

Anon says: Clinton would acknowledge mistakes were made

After he tried to redefine what a "mistake" is. Oh wait, that was redefining "is" Oh I forget. The Repubs went after Clinton with fervor, as now the Dems are going after Bush. Neither side wants to work with the other, even smiling and saying they are "Reaching across the aisle"

If Squidhead projects any better, we should weld a 'Bell and Howell' label to his retarded carcass.

8MM in in a DVD-RW world. So appropriate for such a throw back retard.

Posted by Mike Puckett at March 14, 2007 05:40 PM

Argh...can we have some civility?

Argh...can we have some civility?

Not with the likes of graffiti artists Anonymous Moron and Swiderski. And to be fair, Mr. Puckett and Mac don't help matters.

But the former two tend to get things off on the wrong foot.

So it seems that the US Attorneys were fired because they weren't doing their jobs.

Just remember to turn off the welder before scratching your ass with it.

Rancid Cheeseball: "8MM in in a DVD-RW world."

It's called a flash drive, Colonel Camembert. Welcome to five seconds ago.

Rancid Cheeseball: "So appropriate for such a throw back retard."

Save it for the Wikipedia entry, genius one.
