Lamenting abuse of language by bureaucrats and academics? Wow, courageous and original.

Lamenting abuse of language by bureaucrats and academics?

You know, that's not a complete sentence...

Posted by Mac at May 30, 2007 01:08 PM

I suppose that no one should ever say something that's been said before.

At least the world will be a much quieter place. Dull, but quiet.

You know, that's not a complete sentence...

Can a sentence be ended with an ellipsis?

Posted by Brian Swiderski at May 30, 2007 11:35 PM

Attempting to communicate effectively, I find myself up the proverbial tributary without feasible means of locomotion. Not being an effective writer, I envy those that are.

Can a sentence be ended with an ellipsis?

It wasn't a sentence, it was a thought. Yeah, that's it.

Lamenting abuse of language by bureaucrats and academics? Wow, courageous and original.

Everything is new to somebody. I had never read Orwell's 'On Politics and the English Language, thanks to that post, I now have.

Looking around I see language abuse by everyone. Shoddy tech manuals, blog posts, CNN - places you might expect to see a clarity of thought it's lacking.

It's a problem, Brian S. What's wrong with pointing that out?

Posted by Brian at May 31, 2007 03:32 PM

places you might expect to see a clarity of thought it's lacking.

That's a compunded problem for CNN and the like, lousy language skills AND lacking in clarity of thought.

Posted by Mac at June 1, 2007 05:26 AM

compunded

Ok, you used it in a sentence, but does it have a definition? [/sarcasm]

Posted by Leland at June 1, 2007 06:20 AM

Compounded confundedness....Compunded

Where'd you go to school?
