Cognitive Dissonance

It looks like Virginia Postrel's thesis is starting to be borne out:

It is weird how so many who claim to like Obama hope he is lying.

Or maybe it's not weird at all.

Actually, this is a very good tactic. I've often thought that the easiest way to power would be to 1) be a democrat party member, 2) talk like a democrat party member - as liberal as possible, and 3) vote like a republican.

In general, I've found that liberals are more concerned with words, and less with actions - while the opposite is true of republicans. (Exceptions that you may think of only exist to prove the rule - this generalization is perfect!)
