Irony

Well, one of the worst defenses in the country stepped up today. Ohio State only scored two touchdowns against it.

Unfortunately, Michigan’s offense lost the game for them instead, with multiple turnovers, and three interceptions in the fourth quarter when they still had a chance to pull it out. No bowls, and an unprecedented sixth straight loss to the Buckeyes. The question is, will Rodriguez keep his job after two straight losing seasons?

  1. Full disclosure: I am an Ohio State graduate.

How do you feel about Jim Harbaugh as the new Michigan coach?

    That explains much… 😉

I wish that it could have happened two years ago. I was one of the people scratching my head at the pick at the time.

But at this point, bringing in a new coach would just mean more turmoil. They rolled the dice on RichRod, and there’s not much to do except let it play out, give him the players he wants to recruit for his system, and see what happens. But another year like this, and I doubt he’ll survive, given that the AD won’t be there to protect him any longer. Interestingly, Michigan’s big slide can be viewed as starting with the death of Schembechler just before the Big Game three years ago. Probably coincidence, but it’s a little eerie.

  3. A few weeks ago I predicted that “RichRod” would be out if he didn’t win today or didn’t win both of the previous two. During the halftime report, the talking heads mentioned an interesting detail though – UMich’s AD will be stepping down a year from now, give or take. I think that ensures Rodriguez is safe for about that long. But given his recruiting thus far (not even maxing out the scholarship cap!?), I wouldn’t want to put money on him lasting much longer than that.

I think it began with the loss to Appalachian State at the beginning of the next season. A devastating and humiliating loss they’ve never really lived down.

That was just a continuation of the big slide that began after Schembechler’s death and the loss to tOSU the previous season.

  6. Mr. Simberg,

after LSU’s meltdown today, you can your old alum Les Miles back.

Many of us disgusted Tiger fans will gladly pay for the moving van.

  7. If my memories of the game aren’t failing me, our defense also didn’t allow a score on any of the turnovers. Defense stood up Saturday.

Add in a missed field goal to what we could have gotten without turnovers and it was a missed opportunity to win pure and simple. Offfensive stats were pretty equal. It was painful to be there.

But despite the pain of being at every home game the last two years, I’d still give RR two more years. Replace him now or after a year and you just get more turmoil. No reason his game style can’t work at Michigan and recruiting will never be as bad as our recorde the last two years would seem to cause–school quality and tradition will keep the worst from happening.

Even Yost was hated for a while. Victories will make people forget the last couple years. Go Glue.
