Almost Home

I’ve been driving all day, but am taking a break for the final leg. We’re climbing up the Cajon Pass from Victorville, and are on the home stretch. And I’m using my new Verizon AirCard, which works great here, but there was no signal in the outback of Utah.

  1. No coverage in Utah? I didn’t have HAM 2meter repeater coverage along most of I-70. Now, thats eerie.

  2. This gives me a renewed sense of history. Imagine Brigham Young and his hardy followers, after arduous travels, finally beholding the vast beauty of the Promised Land — just to find that not only was the Lake salty, but there was no cell coverage!

    Humbling…

    Probably not half as humbling as discovering that he could have taken I-80 all the way.

    Kind of rugged terrain for that, don’t you think? Next time install an HF rig and a screwdriver antenna on the bumper.
