  1. Or, maybe he was trying to reenact the Dick Cheney dove hunting scene? With a ‘better’ out come?

(yeah, I know, it’s sick, but somebody was going to think it or say it)

  2. Too soon…

Get her comfortable with (relatively) frequent trips…then get her to bring Ruth and Sonia along….

    Then the tragic accident….

  3. I can imagine (hope for?) the progression of her reactions:

    – No, you go ahead – I’ll watch.
    – Hey, lemme try that.
    – Ow! Kicks a little. Lemme try again.
    – Dang, this is kind of cool.
    – Hello, NRA? I’d like a life membership, please.

  4. Hopefully he got her set up with a 20 gauge to start out with … the idea is to get her to like it, not be scared off by recoil. Optimum result would be as Bob mentions.

Well put. Of course, not every gun is the same. I have an ancient 20 gauge from my grandfather, and naively thought it would have moderate recoil like a modern 20. Nope. That thing kicks more than my Remington 12 gauge. It was so bad I was literally looking to switch guns halfway through my round.

  6. Women and kids should start out with a 410, it’s a lot more fun and less pain. Al’s video is pretty scary.

  7. ck,

I believe that you are being unfair. I don’t agree with Kagan on many issues, and I do believe that her much vaunted intellect is vastly overrated, but she is hardly an intellectual midget….

  8. Can we get a constitutional amendment requiring that Supreme Court justices be proficient with firearms?

I bet we’d have fewer presidents saying things like, “John Marshall has made his decision, now let him enforce it!”

  9. Scott, the issue I would take with ck’s comment is that, while Justice Kagan may be short, she’s not a midget — otherwise “intellectual midget” could mean “a midget who is intellectual.”

Of course, it depends on what ck intended to mean… 😉

    Judge, jury AND executioner…finally!

  11. I saw R. Lee Ermey’s Locked n’ Loaded episode about shotguns not long ago. He shot an original Browning Auto-5 and it didn’t look like it was very fun to shoot. Even Gunny had a hard time keeping the recoil under control. It bucked so bad that his finger accidentally bumped the trigger and it double shoot. Of course the second round went off with a 30 degree barrel rise.
