As I understand it, Baby On Board signs might have actually served something of a purpose in Europe when they were first used–they were supposed to let paramedics know that an infant might be onboard a crashed vehicle, so the paramedics might spend a bit more time looking under the dash and under seats for it (although the 500 lbs of supplies needed to take care of an 10 lb infant for a five minute car ride might be a better indicator). Now that baby and infant carriers are mandatory they serve no useful purpose.
