The French are arrogant, rude and surly, particularly in Paris. Imagine that.

On a recent trip, I was happily surprised at the attitude of the French toward anglophone visitors.

Also, I was a little surprised by the police checking my ID in a non-restricted public area. Such a thing wouldn't fly in the US. I'm sure that's part of the reason why the homeland is so tough to defend and why illegal immigrants can fly under the radar for many years without detection.
