He's Right

If Obama isn't the next president, it will be because of America's inherent racism. And if Hillary! isn't, it will be because of America's inherent sexism. It won't, it goes without saying, be because of any inherent deficiencies in them as candidates that are independent of their melanin content or genital configuration.

And it's guaranteed to be one or the other, because only one of them (if either) can win. And of course, if neither of them do, and another Rethuglican steals the election, it will be because we're both racist and sexist. Because, you know, it's always America's fault.

It is interesting how certain modern arguments boil down to the precept that only the person who doesn't do anything is guilt-free. I also gather that feeling guilt is enough. You can be racist, sexist, pollute the environment, kill people, etc. Just feel guilty about it after you do it.

Posted by Karl Hallowell at December 20, 2007 10:14 AM

You don't have to actually feel guilty about it. You only have to apologize, and feign it.

Article about Hillary's attack websites.

And as we already learned from other posters, it will be because of the inherent racism and sexism of rednecks in the southern states.

I guess we can be thankful Hillary found her "Universal Pre-K" gift to all of us. See "Universal" means nobody is excluded.

Posted by Leland at December 20, 2007 11:06 AM

Should have clicked Dennis' link earlier. Looks like Hillary has given us the gift of sockpuppetry websites. Maybe sockpuppetry isn't the right term. Anyway, both sites are down. Too bad, because I really wanted to see if they followed campaign rules and noted where their funding came from. You know, "I'm Hillary Clinton and I approved this message."

Posted by Leland at December 20, 2007 11:52 AM

Racism? Misogyny?

Because it couldn't possibly be because the voters think their not up to the job, right?

Posted by Steve at December 20, 2007 12:12 PM

The last I heard Obama's mother was White. So why is he referred to as Black?

50-50, let's be fair to the White half, enough with the affirmative action. Half the time we should call him White.

Posted by Toast_n_Tea at December 20, 2007 02:05 PM

it will be because we're both racist and sexist

Draft Condi!

Posted by Toast_n_Tea at December 20, 2007 02:20 PM

So by that reasoning, If Ron Paul isn't elected what does that mean? If Huckabee isn't elected, if Giuliani isn't, how about McCain and Fred Thompson?

Posted by Jardinero1 at December 20, 2007 03:23 PM

The answer, Jardinero, is very clear from where I'm sitting:

Phengophobia-Rhinophobia, Pedophobia-Theologicophobia, Peladophobia-Taurophobia, Rhytiphobia and Peladophobia-Somniphobia in that order.

Posted by Toast_n_Tea at December 20, 2007 03:38 PM

TnT,
harkening back to the rules of the days of Jim Crow, he's still black. Except now it allows him entry to things as opposed to keeping him out, as in those olden days. That 50% blood allows him to play the race card whenever he wants. When he plays it we are to quake in our boots at the mere thought that someone was a racist and harmed him in any way.

He and everyone of dark skin is allowed by the reverse Jim Crow laws to say whatever they want about anyone with lighter skin than they have. There is no redress allowed for whitey either.

These rules also apply to women, the GLAAD crowd and anyone who entered the U.S. legally or illegally, and who is now in an illegal status.

Actually the only ones without a voice, come to think of it, are white males who don't make enough money or don't have enough PAC clout and connections to call a press conference.

And if a republican wins it means Diebold screwed up?

Posted by Bryan Price at December 20, 2007 05:40 PM

Steve, Obama hasn't done any of the above. I doubt he ever will. The other point that you need to remember is that if he does he never will win the support of a majority. So he could be not doing these things because he knows this.

However, I think he is not doing these things, because he doesn't believe in them. I think David Brooks piece on Obama is a must read:

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/18/opinion/18brooks.html?_r=1&hp&oref=slogin

It really says something very good about America that it can produce someone like Obama. I hope he is President some day.

Posted by Toast_n_Tea at December 20, 2007 06:06 PM

I hope he isn't while the war's still going, because I have no faith at all that he will do a good job at protecting the country, based on what he's said.

Posted by Big D at December 20, 2007 11:41 PM

I hope he isn't while the war's still going

It is not lost on Republican strategists that they have defined the war so that will last forever.

Posted by Jim Harris at December 21, 2007 07:26 AM

It really says something very good about America that it can produce someone like Obama.

That's nonsense. America didn't produce Obama, he produced himself. Also, I certainly respect the guy and I would have no trouble voting for him over the ideologically sandbagged Republicans, but I don't think of him as Churchill crossed with Lincoln. (The same goes for Hillary Clinton.) The main thing is that it says something bad about America that Bush and Cheney were elected. (Not that America "produced" them; there are achievers and hacks in every society.) While some of the Republicans running now are probably quite a bit better, as I said, Bush and Cheney sandbagged them.

Posted by Jim Harris at December 21, 2007 07:35 AM

If racism is inherent in America, doesn't that mean it has some kind of genetic component? And that only whites have this particular gene(s).

If that's the case, then racism isn't a moral failure, it's a disease. We shouldn't condemn racists, we should help them.

Let's get the NIH right on this problem to 'find a cure'. We could use a white ribbon as the symbol of the fight to find a cure. We can have walks and other kinds of fundraisers.

Posted by lovernios at December 21, 2007 07:55 AM

If racism is inherent in America

Racism isn't inherent in America. It might be inherent in American partisanship, unfortunately. People in this thread have chosen to ignore that Obama didn't play the race card. Chris Cuomo tried to get him to do it, but he failed. That should be the end of the story. If Obama ever describes the campaign as a high-tech lynching, then you guys will have a case.

Posted by Jim Harris at December 21, 2007 07:59 AM

Ron Paul also attracts telaniveophobia...

http://www.littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=28353&only&rss

(tela = cloth, niveus = white -- closest I could get to "white sheet")

Posted by Alan K. Henderson at December 21, 2007 11:29 AM

"And if a republican wins it means Diebold screwed up?"

I thought that meant (according to some of my friends) that they **didn't** screw up!
