Support Free Speech

I've added a new button over to the left on my sidebar, supporting Mark Steyn and Macleans against the Canadian Human RightsWrongs Commission. Here's the latest in the saga.

If someone sets up a legal fund to support a counter suit by Mark, I'll link the button to it, instead of to the web site that came up with it, as it is now.

To paraphrase Boswell and Johnson: Cries of censorship are a last refuge of scoundrels. But let it be considered that I do not mean a real and generous concern for free speech rights, but rather the eager victimhood of those who say reprehensible things.

I don't agree with everything of Steyn's, but he is a good writer, and deserves support in this censorship case. Glad to see you and others picking this up. "The eager victimhood of those who say reprehensible things" is a phrase rightly applied to the Islamists whose reprehensible sayings and behavior Mr. Steyn is being attacked for pointing out.

And to Steyn. A pox on both of their houses.

One of my pet peeves is superficial evenhandedness without a full accounting of the facts. It is intended to create an illusion of objectivity while putting the victim on the same level of culpability as the aggressor.

Harris, you may strongly disagree with Steyn, but he is not the one trying to forcibly silence those who disagree with him. The Canadian Islamists are the bad guys in this scenario.

False moral equivalence is one of Jim Harris' specialties.

Yea, I don't recall O'l Jim considering the Islamists as reprehensible until now. I guess some animals are more equal than others.
