Lazy

Fred Thompson says that journalists lack fire in the belly.

(Can we please retire that idiotic cliche now?)

Well, it was inevitable that it would come to this, given how badly broken our journalism system is.

While I wish that Fred Thompson would say such a thing, doesn't the fact that the article is on Scrappleface mean that it's satire? There's something a little funny-looking to me about reporting that as X says Y instead of "X says Y," says Scrappleface.

Yes, it is satire, just as is the other piece I linked to.

Yes, its satire but Scrappleface captures Fred's rhetorical style so excellently and expresses the truth of the matter so perfectly, that I had to think about it for a few minutes before I decided that that's what it was. It's a situation of, if Fred didn't say it, he ought to have done so. I'd like to imagine that if Fred reads it, he'll kick himself for having not thought of it himself.
