I’ve been thinking about one for a while – but none of the cheap ones, any time I’ve looked, have been anything but dispiritingly poorly reviewed.
You start getting things that look usable, reliable, and sensible well over $200.
It’s surprising that nobody seems to have come out with a sub-$200 one that isn’t just half-assed trash from Guangdong or the like; the market is there, I think. I’d buy one with good reviews at $150 – but not $275 for the cheapest Lucas or BlackVue.
(DealExtreme, for instance, has a never-ending parade of the safe half dozen basic crappy designs on their “new” list. But none of them are very good, and the intended market seems to be entirely Russian. Which is fine, except that that means the English documentation is a joke, and the quality standards are aimed at Russian price points, not American ones.)
Why stop with a dash cam? How about a 24/7 head cam and put an complete end to personal privacy? Not to mention giving the authorities something else to use to spy on you and society.
That said I see a real market for someone to invent a device to jam and erase dash cams, head cams and other types of spy cams, restoring an person’s privacy 🙂

And, you can do stunts like Canada to Mexico in one hour.
The fraud video is crazy.
