    As long as the Republicans are too afraid of letting the government shut down, the Democrats can reject their every proposal until they are “forced” to give them what they want.

    Letting the government shut down is the House’s best and only weapon, and it’s one they should be willing to use. The House is responsible for the budget, nothing should be funded that they don’t explicitly endorse.

    However, they aren’t willing to use it. The recent budget showdown told you everything you need to know about how any future confrontation will turn out. The Republicans value keeping the government going over reigning in spending.
