Some possibilities that quickly come to mind:
1. The planet formed elsewhere, was ejected and was later captured by the binary system.
2. The planet formed around a single star that later became part of a binary system.
3. Somehow, the planet formed in a binary system.
It really isn’t surprising that such planets could form, but getting one to have a stable climate for the formation of life is questionable.
