My Lodging Situation In Israel

I am going through an experience that I would find hilarious if it were happening to someone else. Maybe future me will laugh at it and write about it, after it’s stopped happening to current me.

  1. Who thinks to ask in advance if the hotel is hosting a pest control convention the same week you are in town? Who would have thought their sample cases would not be entirely secured?

  2. I hope you get your situation, whatever it is, sorted out.

I’ve had all sorts of issues with hotels in various places. One I remember well was at Iguazu Falls in South America; the AC in the hotel was so weak it kept the rooms (and the rest of the hotel) at a balmy 90, and as an added bonus, the rooms had free wildlife; ants. Lots and lots of ants.

Another one comes to mind; a stay at a rural farm in Italy, which had a few rooms for rent. It had mice, and when I complained, I was cheerily assured by the inkeeper (whose English was almost as bad as my Italian) “No problem! No problem! No extra charge!”. I suppose I should be thankful that they didn’t count them as pets and charge me a pet fee.

And then there were several places with bedbugs. Ugh. And, as a note to anyone who hasn’t dealt with bedbugs, the bugs in the hotel are the least of the problem; they tend to hitchike in your luggage, to give you an infestation at home. For that reason, I never unpack at home, but go to a laundromat, unpack there, and put the laundry into a bag, not a suitcase, for the trip home.
