Obama The Muslim

I don’t think that Donald Trump thinks that Obama is a Muslim. What he said (which which I agree) is that there is something on his birth certificate that he doesn’t want us to see, and that it might be that it says he’s a Muslim (I think it might also, or instead be that Barack Hussein Obama isn’t listed as the father Who knows, unless we can see it?). That doesn’t make him one, though. As I’ve said before, in order to be a Muslim (or a Christian) you have to believe in something greater than yourself. I’ve never seen any evidence that Barack Obama does so.

  1. I’m in the camp that the birth certificate probably gives a more “Christian” name like “Barry” or as some suggest, “Barry Soetoro”. Then the question would be, why was his name changed to a “Muslim” stylization? In short, there’s probably something in it that embarrasses him; and he’ll have to keep providing excuses for not showing it.

  2. Seeing the hair reminded me of how skilled Trump is as building gaudy monuments to himself.

  3. Trump is brilliant at generating publicity for himself. He’s going after Obama merely by saying things that many people think but are afraid to say on the record. That’s the real point here. Trump is surfing a huge wave that few people in respectable public life (with notable exceptions such as Rush Limbaugh) will acknowledge. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out, though I suspect Trump will come out ahead (I don’t know if Obama will, however).

  4. Chris,
you can’t possibly be that dim.

It’s the originality and veracity of THAT piece of paper that causes ALL the discussion!! Most people think what you’ve referenced is the Obama Birth Cert, as written by Clifford Irving!

  5. There is a lot of rumors swirling around that it is hard to keep them all straight. I think Obama hasn’t released it because he wants to attack people who bring it up.

  6. Re Obama a Muslim, as the child of a Muslim man isn’t he considered by the teachings of Islam to be Muslim whether he wishes / claims to be or not?

Otherwise I think Rand is on target, Obama doesn’t believe in anything greater than himself.

  7. Chris Gerrib – so have you never heard of what often happens to Muslims who convert to Christianity?

My comment was about what I understand to be the viewpoint of ISLAM on issue of the religious affiliation of a Muslims offspring. It has nothing to do with what you or I believe a person can do as far as converting from Islam to another belief is concerned.

  8. Trump can go where mere mortals cannot and he can defend himself a lot better than most. It’s clear he’s not afraid of Obama.

My guess is that there’s something on the Birth Certificate that Obama does not want anyone to see. Could very well be something contrary to something written in one of his books. Someday we’ll know.

I rather doubt it’s a double reverse on the birthers just so Obama can ridicule them….Obama spent a few million keeping other basic information secret as well. That’s a big price to pay for the ability to ridicule someone.

  9. Cecil – most people who convert from Islam to any other religion have no problems.

Gregg – I don’t know how you determine Obama spent “millions” keeping information hidden. None of the lawsuits trying to force disclosure even got to a hearing – they were squashed in the intial legal filings. That’s pretty early (and cheaply) into the process.

  10. As I hear it, Islam prescribes the death penalty to those who leave the religion.

As for the birth certificate, we can only guess at what is being hidden. But the “none of your business where I was born” initial response to those asking the question gave legs to the issue.

  11. Peterh – good thing the Secret Service is on the case. Of course, given that all kinds of people want to kill the President, I’m not sure it matters.

  12. Peterh – regarding this “none of your business” – did anybody ask to see Clinton’s or Reagan’s birth certificate? No. They said “I was born in thus-and-so place” and we believed them.
