It’s not just ignorance and stupidity. Many of them simply reject the notion that society should expect self-control from its citizens, and prefer that all control be imposed by force by the state.
Gun ownership requires some self-restraint. I only have enough guns to defend my family, pets, and property from any conceivable threat. Not one gun more. Of course, Janet Reno raised the bar on that a few years back.
