Book Question

Has anyone actually ordered and received a copy yet?

[Friday-morning update]

Well, as you can see in comments, we have disparate results. One person has received it, one is going to next week, and one got a message that it’s a month away. So huh.

  1. I just ordered a copy, and the email confirmation said:

    Your estimated delivery date is:
    Thursday, January 2, 2014 –
    Thursday, January 9, 2014

    1. Just got this in email:

We have good news! We’re able to get this part of your order to you faster than we originally promised:

Simberg, Rand E. “Safe Is Not an Option”
      Previous estimated arrival date: January 02, 2014 – January 09, 2014
New estimated arrival date: December 11, 2013

      1. So the book order was mixed in with other stuff that was backordered?

That is good news. It means that a lot of people (all three of you) who ordered the book this week will have it early next.

        1. I don’t know why they phrase it the way they did, but the book was the only item in the order, so it wasn’t mixed with anything else backordered.

          Just general weirdness.

  2. I ordered a copy for the XCOR library, still pending:

      1. Funny stuff. But, odd that people would take so much time to write something silly. I’m sure it could be an important book for small ocean-going vessels which have to contend with those monsters coming at them.

I suppose there is maybe a hazard of getting sucked in by by the pressure gradient, and you have to know what to do to slip past it. Probably something like our orbital mechanics where you would actually thrust perpendicular to the line of force to whip around it, instead of trying to fight it directly. It may also become important one day to avoid the spacetime compression wave of an Alcubierre drive 🙂
