You do understand that this discovery bolsters Canadian claims of sovereignty in what the U S of A considers international waters. Why this should matter to a libertarian in particular can be summed up here:
” The Canadian government has continually stated that is does support international shipping through the Northwest Passage, as long as Canadian awareness and regulations, rather than international law, are followed.”
Translation: Draconian eco-fascist rules protecting a bunch of stupid fish will harm American capitalism!
It isn’t about the fish. It’s about offshore oil and seabed mining in the far north.

Heh. I’m sure you’re right. And I’m sure Ed is right too. . And of course, there are plenty of other reasons for Rand and everyone else to find the Franklin expedition interesting. But I do wonder if the discovery really is bad news for US interests.
