  1. Dad was waiting to be sent into France two weeks later. He was a combat engineer that helped Patton’s 3rd Army ford rivers, including the Rhine. My Uncle Lee was at Omaha Beach, I didn’t know this till after he passed in 81. That explained much.

  2. Post D-Day I would have 3 relatives KIA in France (on June 8, July 9, July 14).

    Another had already been KIA in Italy January 7, posthumous DSC.

    And finally the man whom I am named in honor of would be lost at sea when USS Indianapolis was sunk July 29, 1945.
