Aren’t There Any Editors Left?

Sarah Palin is righteously demanding that the LA Times release the tape, but look at this transcript:

…she saved her hardest criticism for the newspaper that currently holds the tape, saying they was refusing to release it to aid Obama.

“It must be nice for a candidate to have major news organizations looking after his best interests like that,” Palin said. “In this case, we have a newspaper willing to throw aside even the public’s right to know in order to protect a candidate that its own editorial board has endorsed. And if there’s a Pulitzer Prize category for excelling in cow-towing, then the L.A. Times, you’re winning.”

I’m pretty sure that the paper has never towed a cow. And she didn’t say that it did. She said that they kowtowed. But I guess neither the writer or editor (if there was one) knew what that word meant or at least how it was spelled.

  1. Of course those sophisticated journalists have heard of “kowtowing”, it’s what Chimpy McBushitler does all the time to the oil interests Texas and Riyadh.

But Palin is stupid bumbkin hick from the back woods. She doesn’t know any words with that many letters, let along foreign ones (no passport). But in Dumbfuckistan “cow-towing” is a commonly used phrase. They tow cows all the time out there, when the cows are tired and refuse to talk back to the barn.

I think Hotline Blog got the transcript right.

  2. And the gaffe earlier in the story, “saying they was refusing to release it…”

If they can’t even get something as simple as a State of Being verb correct, what makes you think they know something as complex as “kowtow”?

  3. Literacy is no longer a qualification for an editorial position.

I once had an editor change a headline on a story about sexual assault to read that someone was “convicted of assault.” When I asked him “WTF?,” he told me that ‘well, it’s just another kind of assault.’

Words mean things. Too bad most newspapers don’t realize this anymore.

  4. What a hypocrite is Sarah Palin. There are public records she isn’t letting the state release, at least not until after the election.

  5. This is the tape of Obama saying nice things about a guy that McCain raised lots of cash for?

    Cool.

Your elections are so much fun. It’s so boring being out of the country (as I have been for the last 10 days) – they really do limit the coverage to a section in news broadcasts, and even then they seem to limit themselves to mundane stuff. Nothing as juicy as clothing or tapes.

Where’s this “whitey” tape then? That I want to see?

What are you fantasizing about now?

  7. For some reason, that struck me as very funny. Thanks for the laugh. Oh, and I thought that it was ‘cow tipping’.
