  1. It’s not just California or Washington. It’s an affliction that many politicians and well meaning civic leaders suffer from.

    Your money has no intrinsic value so long as it stays with you Only when they take it does it have value.

    Tried to explain this to a local pol and got the ‘divide by zero’ look of one of Harry Mudd’s robots (obligatory Star Trek reference).

  2. At the company where I work, if you attempt to change your withholding on the appropriate web site you get this message:

    Under penalties of perjury, I certify the number of withholding allowances claimed on this certificate does not exceed the actual number of which I am entitled to. If claiming exemption from withholding that I am entitled to claim the exemptions . . ……this form will be submitted to the Dept. of Review for review.

    If memory serves, this is something new.

    Interesting. That language doesn’t appear on the 4-W(2009) form.
