  1. That’s a good article. I left a comment over there.

As I said on another thread here the other night, this stuff is exciting! It reminds me of when I read Gerard O’Neill’s “The High Frontier” back in the 70s when I was about 16 or 17. I couldn’t sleep that night.

  2. This is a fruitless debate. There isn’t a single serious voice out there bound by the shackles of a long dead program, and punching this strawman is about as useful as setting up a false choice between cutting the cost of space travel and picking a damned destination.

  3. We need to think about how to make space travel and exploration the dominion of all of humanity, and not just of a few chosen to represent it.

It’s the politics. Obama says he wanted to fundamentally change America. The reality is that it has already been fundamentally changed before he arrived on the scene. What we need to do is change it back. We need to reduce the bureaucracy at all levels of government. We need to recapture our frontier spirit. I just wrote a blog post about “Real horror.” Shooting a wounded animal on the frontier was considered a merciful act. These people think shooting an animal for food is a form of torture. The real, real horror is many of these people saturate all levels of government.
