Wow, 42 years. Let’s hope a Dragon does a Lunar orbit for the 43rd!
I was in the 9th grade for the Apollo VIII flight. One of our English class assignments that December was to write a short story, so, being a young spaceflight fanatic, I made it about the upcoming flight, and had the astronauts discovering Santa’s true base on the back side of the moon. The teacher accused me of plagiarism when I would not “tell her where I’d read the story first”. Got hauled to the principal’s office, and my mother had to come to the school and tell them she was in the room when I was writing the story and got the idea. Sheesh! I think Mrs. Bell had a grudge the rest of the school year after that-and I’m sure she didn’t believe Mom.
