In one respect, I don’t have a problem with a city or whatever community owning a stadium; when they also own the team. But not even the NFL will allow that to happen more than once. But otherwise, it is taxpayers subsidizing millionaires to perform for the rich. And I love have Lileks brings in the light rail conversation. Houston’s light rail has created many accidents but has done nothing to increase the value of the area around it or the ridership to pay for itself.
I’m sorry, but if it makes business sense to build a stadium the owners can bloody well build it themselves. If it only makes sense with tax subsidies than move along, nothing to see here.
