  1. Attention women: if you will not ever be satisfied no matter what, we men will stop trying. If you really want a patriarchy, you’ll get it good and hard.

    1. I’ve already seen comments on a number of fora by people who seem to have read John Norman’s Outlaw of Gor and decided the ending was a Good Idea and should be implemented ASAP.

  2. The elephant in the middle of the living room that nobody wants to talk about is the whole notion that women need to be able to have casual sex with multiple partners and no consequences in order to be “empowered” or “liberated” or otherwise equal to men. Combine that with the party/hookup culture that’s developed on way too many college campuses, where people think that getting drunk and having casual sex is the only way to have fun, and you’re going to have trouble.

The big mistake was getting rid of the old double standard by throwing out the rulebook altogether, instead of insisting that everybody be held to the same moral standard of continence before marriage and fidelity within. But the second-wave feminists mistook “getting away with breaking the rules” with freedom and demanded it for themselves. with predictable results.

  3. Cloistering grownups for their own good only works in a war zone, and when it gets that bad most have the sense to move undercover by themselves.

  4. The second link in Rand’s post, an article written by Megan McArdle, is a gem, her take on moral panics I could apply to so many subjects covered by this blog (Muslims in Europe, communist conspiracies, hockeysticks):
There are a lot of definitions of moral panic running around, but here’s mine: It’s when a community becomes hysterical about some problem — often, but not always, a real one — that becomes defined as an existential threat to public safety and moral order. In such a climate, questioning how big the threat actually is, or contesting any particular example, is not a matter of rational discussion, but of heresy.

While the moral panic is raging, ludicrous and improbable stories suddenly become convincing, and it’s dangerous to question them, because why are you defending witches? Are YOU a witch?
