  1. It’s a combination of psychological disorders and intentionally poor education. Those who feel the need to control others appear to be strongly drawn to politics, Wolves. Dumbing down and disarming the population makes them easier to control. Sheep.

  2. I’ve been carrying for over 6 years. Last year I had to re-apply, and pay my fees to keep my permit in tact. I had a fairly high security clearance in the military, and I’ve been finger-printed so many times for background checks for jobs that I’ve lost count. Starting when I was just 18, to get a Chauffeurs License to drive a hack.

I’ve taken the MMPI at least twice, once to get my Reactor Vessel Clearance, at a nuke construction site. And now I’ve passed two background checks, at the national level, to get and keep my CCH.

Yet, I never go a week, without some anti-gun anal orifice, asking me WHY I feel the need to ‘own’, ‘have’, carry a gun!! And they all question my sanity BECAUSE I carry a pistol. Many, are absolutely manic and in my face. I mean close and spitting manic.

As if their opinion over rule our 2nd Amendment Rights.

But I argue them down, in just as loud a voice as thy use on me and just as close as they get to me. I’m over 60, and I’ve always carried a big enough knife to defend myself , or to defend anyone around me, since I was a teen. [in all actuality, I’ve had a pocket knife in my pocket, since I turned 9, and I got a blue and yellow handled Cub Scout Knife…imagine sending a kid to 3rd or 4th grade NOW with that knife in their pocket!! ] On a few occasions, I was forced to use it. Not bragging, don’t take it that way. In part I was to blame because of where I hung out and the people I was associated with. I grew out of ‘them’, but still kept the knives.

I’ve been sick and or disabled for almost 25 years now. At the point where I felt too old or too slow to use just a knife, I got my CCH.

Now, since the day I got that permit, I never leave my house, even to cut grass, or to go feed my animals, on my own property, I never go without my pistol on my hip. I’ve never had to pull it anywhere, thank God. But I would if needed. I have had to ‘uncover’ it twice since I started carrying. Once in a fast food restaurant, IN the Men’s Room, when three huge teen males, threatened me. I’m leaving skin color out, as the only one that concerned me was MY skin turning very white. I was scared, I’m not sure I could have defended myself against three young guys in that small a space.

But they backed down, I got lucky as hell. I know in my heart, they’d have used MY knife on ME that day. There is zero chance for most of us to go full on Bruce Lee in a Ronald McDonald’s crapper, against 3 determined thugs.

Other than medical facilities [where I position myself with my back to a wall, my eyes on the door(s) passageways] I simply do not go into those places that want ME disarmed. They do not, will not get my money. I do about 90% of my non food, non building supplies, non car parts shopping, online. When I do go out, I only do business with places that allow me AND my buddy Roger D Ruger total access to their facilities.

If I go into a health care place, I dump my gun in the trunk, in a locked case, but I leave my holster ON my belt. I’m not disrobing in a parking lot to keep the hand wringers happy or to keep them off my back. There is not a l;aw in the country about wearing an EMPTY holster, I know, because I looked so I could be certain. My main diatribe to the anti-gun crowd is always the same sentence,

“..what makes YOU think that a criminal will follow the words on that sign you’re pointing out to me, or why will they obey State Statute 19 tack 45, Section 11, Sub Section A4, see Addendum 23, aren’t we talking about criminal behavior in the first place?!”

    Followed BY,

“What makes you think that you WON’T be shot, IF the gov’t takes ALL my legally owned firearms? HOW will disarming ME, will keep you safe, and if people having guns handy, carrying concealed or in the open is NOT a deterrent to crimes or mass shootings, then how come we NEVER hear about someone walking into a gun store, gun range or a gun SHOW, and shooting up a bunch of people there?”

Generally I leave them stammering and stuttering. And as much as I hate to ‘pile on’ I take these periodic events and ADD them to the diatribe. I ask them how taking my legal NC guns, would have or will EVER save lives in [enter the name of the last massacre site here…] !!?

In fact this one in SC hit pretty close to home for me from a couple of angles.

My youngest brother goes to Charleston a couple times a month on business. I know he has accts in the historic district.

We know some folks down there [our ex-pastor and his family] who I know, KNEW the Pastor at Emanuel.

And the small NC town where this animal was caught, Shelby, is where my B-i-L, his wife and one of or married nieces all live.

So this isn’t a distant, national, racial, hate crime, lack of gun law issue for ME. It’s fairly GD close, and I thank God that none of the people I know were hurt. Yes that is selfish. I admit it openly.

But being that close, and seeing that individual shootings may be dropping, but MASS shootings are going UP, and seeing who is near it in MY own family like this, makes me vow to preach Concealed Carry, Open Carry in ANY place not already guarded by ARMED guards or trained security officers. And as I’m from KY, that includes IN a church!

None of us should have to worry about being shot like that, regardless of the site being a church, theater, mall, park or anywhere NOT guarded 24 / 7.

[just for the tally sheets, I had a ‘prowler’ around my house last Mon night. the dog started barking, when I went to the front window, I thought I saw someone through the blinds, go between our cars, and when I opened the door, I could here someone ‘walking’ in the mulch on that side of the house. I yelled out that we are well armed and that we will shoot first and call 911 afterwards.

We do not live in a high crime area, we live in a small, family development, 25 miles from the state capitol. There are more COWS on our main road some parts of the year, than people in vehicles]

The concept of a ‘Gun Free Zone’ comes from the same types of boobs who think making ‘bullying’ a Zero Tolerance, is stopping kids from being bullied. How’s that working for the kids?

    1. I usually just say,
“I carry a gun. If I had been there, I might have been able to do something about it. What would YOU be able to do?”
      Shuts ’em right up.

  3. The pastor & board of our church have made a point of encouraging concealed carry. We have emergency plans for fires, tornadoes AND violent intruders. We have procedures to protect the nursery and children’s classes if necessary, Pastor, his wife and several board members and elders carry, plus other members of the congregation. We all pray it will never happen, but we’ll protect the families in our care to the best of our ability.

  4. I’ve owned guns and enjoyed using them from time to time. But I have no interest in living in a society where — to expect my safety and the safety of those around me — I have to actively carry a firearm with me. Is the rightist vision that everyone should, or must, have a gun in their possession at all time? Do you, Rand, carry a gun? If you don’t, why not?

This is not meant as snark. This is meant as a philosophical inquiry.

    1. So what do you plan to do when a criminal who does believe in carrying a gun decides to rob and kill you?

Die, or shout for other men with guns to come and put their lives at risk to save you?

      1. “Die, or shout for other men with guns”

That’s called a police force. We make a social contract with them to maintain order on our behalf. I make a similar contract with the highway patrol to maintain order among civilian traffic in vehicles.

        1. Like I said, you expect other men with guns to risk their lives to save yours, because you won’t do it yourself.

If you read crime reports from Britain around the beginning of the 20th century, you often see exactly the opposite: unarmed police were lent guns by armed citizens on the rare occasions they ran into criminals with guns. Oh, and crime rates were far lower than they are today, so few people would have felt they had any need to carry a gun. It was just what free men did.

        2. I am a special kind of Law Enforcement. My assigned area encompasses three remote counties. I love it when people think I can respond to a crime in progress and catch the perpetrator in the act when I am three hours away, it is about as likely as catching a Sasquatch riding a Unicorn..

Their are people and entities whom I strongly suspect of violating the Law and yet even though I have this forewarning, it is exceedingly difficult to catch them actively committing a crime in such a way I can have them prosecuted. I can’t even set a camera without a court order or the permission of the landowner, which is often the suspect. Partially thanks to myself and my input, my Agency utilizes an interpretation of the Open Fields Doctrine more restrictive than Oliver vs US allows.

My job is proactive, it is reactive only in dire emergencies.

If you are expecting the Police to effect a timely rescue, put down the remote and stop watching so damn much garbage on TV. It is a fantasy. The odds it will be over for minutes before the cops arrive are overwhelming. At best, they might find you before you bleed out if you are lucky.

    2. Is the rightist vision that everyone should, or must, have a gun in their possession at all time?

No, that is a stupid caricature of the “rightest” (whatever the hell that means) vision.

Our vision is that anyone who wants to carry, and meets the requirements, can do so, and that the criminals won’t know who is carrying.

    3. Dave,
Rand lives in one of the few places in the US remaining where it is hard for a non-elite to obtain a carry permit or haven’t you been paying attention?

“But I have no interest in living in a society where — to expect my safety and the safety of those around me — I have to actively carry a firearm with me.”

So, you would have others who don’t share your hang-up not carry? How is that going to solve the problem?

    4. I don’t carry a gun because I live in California, where it is almost impossible to any longer legally do so, since they outlawed open carry. But even if I could, I probably wouldn’t, because it’s a hassle. But when I lived in Florida, I was glad that other responsible citizens could.

  5. The SOCUTS has ruled that the police have ZERO responsibility to protect you. (See Warren vs DC in 1981) Its just plain not their Job Their Job is to apprehend the criminals AFTER the crime. . So what your really saying is I want to live in a fantasy world where no one ever commits any acts of violence against you or yours.

  6. I have no interest in living in a society where … I have to actively carry a firearm…

Strawman, the left’s favorite invalid argument.

Dave, living in a fantasy world is a symptom of mental illness. How do you propose to form this society (assuming you don’t get a red button?)

  7. You have to wonder why the half way measures?

If gun free zones are such a good idea why not go all the way and designate crime free zones?

    Because it’s not about safety?
