The Language Of Leftists

Yes, they do talk differently, and duplicitously:

…here’s another way to look at the results. Liberals talk about politics in language that appeals to our primal socialist instincts, developed on the savanna when we belonged to small clans of hunter-gatherers who really did look out for their kin. Conservatives discuss politics in language that reflects modern reality: socialism doesn’t work in groups larger than a clan, because people do not behave selflessly when they belong to a large group of unrelated strangers. Liberals believe in what the economist Daniel Klein calls “The People’s Romance,” but that fallacy has been exposed by Adam Smith, de Toqueville and Darth Vader, among others.

When liberals say that “government is the word we give to the things we choose to do together,” they score high on affiliation, and some of them may even believe government is one big happy collaboration among equals. But conservatives know that philosophy just means giving one small group of people in the capital more power to boss and coerce the rest of us.

Yes. I think this also related to Jonathan Haidt’s thesis.

  1. Read my lips. No new taxes.

If you think double-speak is a left-only political phenomenon you sure are naive.

    1. Pretty sure that Bush didn’t want to raise taxes but was forced to in order to get Democrats to work with him. That isn’t really newspeak.

Newspeak is the cultural marxist use of the English language, commonly referred to as Orwellian.

On occasion do non-leftists stray into this area? Sure, but the left has a long troubled history with the Marxist lexicon. Take for instance the word racism. What does racism mean? Well, for cultural marxists it means that only white people can be racist, literally. I am serious, go ask some campus crusader or grievance studies major to define racism. Then ask them if black people can be racist and the answer is always no because they lack power. It doesn’t matter if blacks do have power or if a poor white person has no power.

What isn’t really part of their definition, is racism being defined as hating other races or thinking your race is superior to others. Having hateful racist views is perfectly OK as long as you hate white people.

White people are regarded as racist and part of a racist system regardless of whether or not they have any racist views and you can have a black person shouting racist slurs and calling for the extermination of other races and it’s not racist at all.

Doesn’t make any sense at all; welcome to newspeak.

      1. There are of course other examples. The biggest of which is saying the the Islamic State has nothing to do with Islam.
