Missed Opportunity

If the Republicans were on the ball, and had the money in the bank, they should look up the parents of the kids who are about to get kicked out of the school that the president’s kids are attending as a result of the Omnibus Bill, and have them plead for a veto of it in front of the camera. Then run the ads.

  1. I’m lost, Rand. What does the linked article have to do with people getting kicked out of school?

Never mind, I found that one of the 5 links in the linked article had information. I don’t know that the link you gave really fits with the text you put for it…

  2. Such an ad would be very misleading, because there’s no evidence that the kids in question wouldn’t be able to continue to attend without the vouchers.

It also mischaracterizes the controversy. The voucher program isn’t about sending kids to Sidwell Friends; elite private schools like Sidwell have few openings, admissions standards that would bar nearly all the children receiving vouchers, and financial aid resources that make the vouchers redundant. The question is whether the vouchers are helping kids who use them at more run-of-the-mill private schools. Those schools may or may not be better than D.C. public schools, but they aren’t very much like Sidwell.
